Discover the vast collection of botanical beauty and rich abundance of wildlife at the Royal Botanical Gardens. Open seven days a week, this wonderful world heritage site is an excellent day out for kids of all ages.
The children’s garden is a fun, interactive space designed for children aged 2-12 to explore. The garden has hidden treasures within, with a 4m high canopy walk wrapped around a 200-year-old oak tree at the heart. The garden does not require any booking and is open for visitors to come and go throughout the day until one-hour before closing time.
Children can explore the elements through the gardens earth, air, water and sun garden within. The water garden is especially popular during the hot summer months due to the host of water activities for children to engage with.
During busier months, Kew gardens offers quiet sessions in the children’ s garden for children aged 2-12 with special educational needs and disabilities.
Standing 17m tall, a stunning piece of contemporary art, known as the hive, in the heart of the wildflower meadow, is a popular spot within Kew gardens. The large enclosure allows visitors to experience what it is like to walk within a bee-hive. The hive was created by Wolfgang Buttress, who won the Landscape Institute Award in 2016 for his work. 1000 LED lights glow accordingly to the vibrations of the bees that live within the gardens, accompanied by a musical symphony that responds to the bees activity.

Getting there
Kew gardens has various gates -
Victoria Gate (TW9 3JR)
Lion Gate (TW9 2DF)
Elizabeth Gate (TW9 3AE)
Brentford Gate (TW9 3AF)
Kew Bridge station is 800m from Elizabeth Gate, with South Western services running from Waterloo. The gardens are also accessible from Richmond station. However it is recommended you take the 65 bus (in the direction of Ealing Broadway) to Lion or Victoria Gate.
To reach Kew gardens by tube, visitors can take the district line or London overground to Kew Gardens station which is 500m from Victoria Gate.
